Pre-Reception
We have had another exciting week in Pre-Reception. On Tuesday we were lucky enough to watch Key Stage 1 and 2 children perform in the Panto after taking part in a Don Rae Academy workshop of ‘The Little Mermaid’. They impressed us all with their behaviour and it was wonderful to see them joining in ‘booing’ at Ursula the Sea Witch! We were enormously proud of them.
Through our new book, ‘Handa’s Hen’, we have begun to learn about different animals that reside in Kenya and we are using drama to explore how the different animals move.
In Maths, we have started to explore the number 4. We are encouraging the children to recognise the numerals 1, 2, 3, and 4 and they have matched groups of objects to the relevant numeral. We have also explored ‘one less’ within 4 through the fabulous book ‘Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons’. We have also introduced four-sided shapes (rectangles and squares).
In Phonics, we have taught the children to pronounce the ‘o’ (as in mop) phoneme (sound) using the rhyme ‘make your mouth into round shape and say o o o’.
