What Early Years got up to in the Prep School this week

Reception

Literacy 
The children have completed various Christmas themed activities this week, including writing about their mischievous elves and their farm trip last week. 

Maths 
We have been consolidating our maths knowledge from the term with Christmas themed activities. This has included one more and one less, repeating patterns, and subitising. We also explored sequencing, thinking about what comes first, next, and last in everyday activities like brushing our teeth. We also revisited length and height, making a special keepsake bauble.  

Expressive arts and design 
It has been a very busy week in our creative area. We have been making Christmas trees, Christmas cards and painted the decorations we made last week. In preparation for the Christmas lunch on Wednesday we all made special Christmas crowns.  

We have been busily joining in activities all week. On Tuesday we all took part in the Elf Run. The children had to complete several obstacles to qualify to be an elf. Then on Wednesday we had our delicious Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. Everyone looked fantastic in their Christmas jumpers and crowns. We finished the day by having our very own EYFS Christmas party complete with games. Then on Thursday we all came together in Chapel for a beautiful service. 

Pre-Reception

What a busy week in Pre-Reception! It might only have been short, but we managed to squeeze in:

• an Elf Run
• a visit to the Christmas gift shop
• Christmas lunch with all the trimmings
• a Christmas party, and
• a Christmas chapel service.

We played lots of fun games in Maths to consolidate the children’s learning of repeating patterns

In Phonics, we have taught the children to recognise the ‘m’ phoneme (sound) and to pronounce this correctly. We have used the phrase, “put your lips together and make the mmm sound.’
