PRE-RECEPTION
The children have continued to settle well and have been very busy this week. On arrival they have been taking part in various gross and fine motor activities. They have enjoyed painting, mark making, using scissors and threading, on a rotation. We will continue to do these activities daily to develop both their gross and fine motor skills. These are a precursor to writing.Â
They have also enjoyed accessing the stimulating environment. It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged in their activities. The children have created some amazing artwork and have been sharing information about their families.
We are encouraging the children to use their manners and say, âPleaseâ and, âThank youâ, as appropriate.Â
As part of our curriculum, we have introduced our âtop ten booksâ. These are âread aloudâ books that we will regularly read with the children. Our aim is that the children will become familiar with the books and join in with repeated refrains and rhymes. As they familiarise themselves with the stories, they will also be able to act them out. Â
Our top ten books are:Â
- Dear Zoo â Rod Campbell
- Brown Bear, Brown Bear â Eric CarleÂ
- Elmer â David McKeeÂ
- Aaarrrgghh Spider â Lydia MonksÂ
- Rubyâs Worry â Tom PercivalÂ
- Giraffeâs Canât Dance â Giles AndreaeÂ
- The Rainbow Fish â Marcu PfisterÂ
- Tanka Tanka Skunk â Steve WebbÂ
- Kitchen Disco â Clare FogesÂ
- Oi Frog! – Kes GrayÂ
