What Early Years got up to this week

PRE-RECEPTION

Thank you to everyone who came to the Christmas Festive Fayre on Saturday and supported the children in selling their crafts.

We have had a very busy week in Pre-Reception! We hope you enjoyed watching our nativity performance, Humph the Camel. We were so proud of all the children, they sang confidently and behaved impeccably throughout. The Chaplain has also been sharing the Christmas story and explaining the meaning behind the gifts.

MATHS

In Maths, we have continued working on simple two-step and three-step repeating patterns (colour, size, shape, sound, and movement).

PHONICS

In Phonics, we introduced the ‘n’ phoneme and practised pronouncing it correctly using the phrase: “Open your lips slightly, place your tongue behind your teeth, and make the nnnnn sound.”

Next Week

  • We will continue the festive season with lots of creative activities
  • In Maths, we will consolidate this term’s learning through fun, Christmas-themed games and activities
  • In Phonics, we will learn to pronounce the ‘m’ phoneme and recognise it at the start of words

RECEPTION

It has been a fun, glitter filled week in Reception.

Literacy

This week we have been learning about winter. We discussed what happens to the trees, weather and what people celebrate during winter. Furthermore, we also started to look at how people celebrate Christmas. We also took a visit to the local post box where we posted off our letters to the North Pole.

Maths

In Maths, we have been consolidating our math knowledge from the term. This has included one more and one less, missing numbers, and addition. We have been encouraging the children to complete these activities independently using the skills we have learnt in class.

Expressive arts and design

Meanwhile, it has been a very busy week in our creative area. We have been making Christmas cards and a special decoration to put on the Christmas tree. We do not want to give too much away as this will be a special surprise for you all!

Christmas Nativity

I am sure you will agree the children all performed beautifully in their performance. We are extremely proud of how confidently they sang and spoke their lines.
