PRE-RECEPTION
It has been a very busy week in Pre-Reception.
We all had a fantastic time celebrating the 80th Anniversary of VE Day. The children had great fun taking part in ‘swing’ dancing to ‘In the Mood’. The dance teacher was very impressed by the children’s behaviour and dance moves. Back in the classroom the children made VE Day bunting and learnt some traditional songs including ‘It’s a Long Way to Tipperary’ and ‘We’ll Meet Again’. Our fantastic catering staff provided a super packed lunch and we enjoyed eating this with the rest of the Prep School whilst listening to songs from the 1940s. Our day was finished with a marvellous parade around the school whilst waving our Union flags.
Literacy
Our book this week was, ‘The Scarecrows’ Wedding’ by Julia Donaldson. The children have been making their own scarecrows and using these to retell the story.
Maths
In Maths, the children have revisited 2D shapes. They are beginning to use mathematical language to describe them and compare their similarities and differences. Next week we will look at 3D shapes.
Phonics
In Phonics, we have learnt the phoneme (sound) ‘z’. You can watch the Little Wandle video at 22 seconds to help you to pronounce the pure sound with your child here.
