Eco-Friendly Farringtons
Dr Mannion, with the help of 10T, gave the Senior School something to think about in assembly this week as we prepare for Eco-Friendly Week.
For one week, Monday 13th to Friday 17th October, Farringtons will endeavour to:
• Switch off lights and turn off computers when not in use
• Waste less food
• Walk, cycle or use public transport
• Use less energy at home and monitor your energy use
• Recycle more paper, cardboard, tin cans and plastic
• Close doors behind you to reduce heat loss
• Don’t waste hot water by leaving taps on
• Only print off files which are final copies – do not waste paper
As well as being eco-friendly at school, we can all do our bit at home by:
• Checking loft insulations, cavity wall and immersion heater insulation
• Reduce thermostat levels
• Put only the amount of water needed in a kettle
• Switch off machines instead of leaving them on stand-by
• Use energy efficient light bulbs
• Fill a dishwasher before use
• Take showers rather than baths
• Buy local produce
• Plant a tree
• Switch off car engine if idle for more than 1 minute
• Reuse shopping bags
Of course, the hope is that by making a conscious effort to be eco-friendly for one week, this might encourage and educate us to be more eco-friendly in the future.
