Bravo Musicians!
29/2/2008

Both Junior and Senior students played to a packed audience of parents and friends on Wednesday 27th February in a fantastic concert showcasing the talents of our musicians and singers.

The opening piece, ‘Gloria’ by Vivaldi, performed by all of the choirs and the Chamber Orchestra, was most inspiring, setting the standard for the whole evening.

A varied programme of solo performances by our talented pianists followed, including: Li Zhang who played ‘Sonata in D’ by Scarlatti beautifully; Jessica Hua who gave a sensitive rendition of ‘Sonata in F’ by Mozart and Katy Lo whose interpretative playing of ‘La Fille Aux Cheveux De Lin’ by Debussy was quite moving. Alison Lau’s performance of ‘Fantasie Impromptu’ by Chopin was enthralling and members of the audience applauded enthusiastically.

Interspersed with these piano items were equally impressive solos on a whole range of instruments. Felicity Cliffe confidently performed ‘Danse Rustique’ on the Cello, ‘Sonata in D’ by Schubert and ‘Sonatina’ by Dvorak were played dynamically by Anna Cox and Emma Hartill respectively. Rebecca Nall’s flute playing of ‘Waltz’ by Rutter, was particularly memorable.

During the evening, the Chamber Orchestra created an enchanting atmosphere with the performances of ‘Greensleeves’ by Vaughan Williams and ‘Eine Kleine Nachtmusik’ by Mozart.

The grand finale of the evening was a rousing performace of ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, arranged by Mr G James, Director of Music and conducted by Mr S Eastwood. Senior and Junior students clearly enjoyed working together for this fun orchestral piece.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this musical evening such a success.
