Year 6 Isle of Wight Residential Trip 2006
7/4/2006

On Sunday March 12th all Year 6 girls assembled by the flag pole ready for their trip to the Isle of Wight – here are some of their highlights of the week:

Monday
On Monday we went caving, climbing, low ropes, go-karts, archery and into the sensory room. In caving we started with training where we had to crawl on the muddy field. In the cave it was dark but some of us had had lights on our helmets. We all finally managed to complete the task. Archery was fun but most of us struggled to hit the target. Instead we hit the wall. In nightline we were blindfolded and were led by the instructor to an obstacle course where we had to hold on to a rope and follow where it led us.

Sunday
On Sunday we went on an exciting trip. When we arrived at Kingswood we met our group leader: Mattie G and he gave us a tour. We were split up into two groups B and C. B group went caving where we had to climb over obstacles with only a torch light. Then Annabelle and I went in but in the pitch black. It took us ages because you could not make out whether there was a tyre in your way or the wall. After dinner we played mini Olympics where we played ball games. Later we had hot chocolate, then got ready for bed, talked for a while but then went to sleep.

Tuesday

Finding ‘Fin’ a new home was a river study. We had to investigate a river and carry out investigations to see if the river suited fins needs!
We then went to the computer lab and we made a graph of our results and a news letter to show why the river was a good place for fin to live!
Next was Aeroball which was great! There were four trampolines split into a cross shape and there was netting around your trampoline so you played the person opposite you. There were nets in each section and you had score in your opponent’s net to score a point!

Wednesday
We set off on the coach heading for the beach near Black Gang Chine. When we arrived we all had a long walk to the rocky beach. Our instructor then gave us a talk about what we were looking for. Everyone found a fossil or a crystal. We then went to Osborne House which was Queen Victoria’s home.

Thursday
Our first activity was building a rectangle using jigsaw pieces. We were quite good at our second task and completed it quite quickly. We took a long time on our third task but we finally completed it. Our second activity was quads which was fun. We had to wear lots of protection such as a helmet, goggles, knee pads and gloves. Then we had fencing which was really cool. We learnt all the positions then we had to go and put on our facemask, coat and gloves. Then we were able to fence each other!!! In the evening we had the disco which was ‘soo’ cool. We couldn’t believe we were leaving tomorrow.

Friday.

As it came to the last day of Isle of Wight activity week, we had three activities’ left. They were following up, orienteering and fencing. Here is what some people thought about the trip. Sarah: “It was great and I would love to do it again!” Olivia said “All the activities were really good fun.” Lucy said” I wish we were still there, it was really great!” Francesca said “I loved the activities but the weather was freezing.”  We all had a great time and would love to do it again.
