Sixth Form Student Wins Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award for Young People
We are delighted to announce that one of our pupils has been chosen to receive the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award for her outstanding contribution to the School and the local community.
Milly Doubleday has been chosen for this Award because of her inspirational qualities that are demonstrated through her commitment and work at Farringtons. She is currently the Head Girl and during her 13 years at Farringtons, she has always shown a caring approach to other students and has involved herself at every level. Additionally she has been involved with Smile International, a charity seeking to transform lives in Europe and Africa, where she does everything from answering the telephone, to travelling to Kosova to support local initiatives. Milly organises fund-raising and inter-house activities throughout the School and leads by example at all times.
The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award was launched nationwide in April 2000 to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions made by many secondary school students to their schools and communities. The Award is given to those students nominated by their schools for:
• Youth participation or volunteering or
• Selfless service to others or
• Showing outstanding qualities in overcoming adverse circumstances
Each secondary school in the UK can annually nominate one student or a group of students for an Award. Since the scheme began as a pilot in September 1999, nearly 7,000 pupils from over 1700 secondary schools across the UK have received awards.
Mrs James, Headmistress commented ''We are all very proud of Milly and are delighted that her commitment to Farringtons has been recognised''.
