Here, everybody can be somebody

Prep School robotics lessonAt Farringtons Prep, our ethos is rooted in the belief that every pupil has the potential to thrive, to be seen, and to be celebrated. Here, everybody can be somebody.

We deliver excellence in adaptive teaching and highly individualised support for all pupils, including those with EAL, SEN, and those working at greater depth. This is underpinned by a culture of inclusivity where every child feels valued and inspired to take risks in their learning. Our expansive 25 acres of Kent countryside and outstanding facilities support this commitment, offering an environment that nurtures every pupil’s journey and fuels their curiosity.

Our beautiful grounds enable us to champion outdoor learning, with specific outdoor learning spaces that enrich every pupil’s experience. In line with our school motto, Posside Sapientiam “Grow in Wisdom,” we give each child opportunities and encouragement to let their individual talents and passions flourish.

Beyond the classroom, pupils are encouraged to explore rich opportunities in co-curricular activities. We champion both sports and the arts. They are essential elements of a balanced education. Through our dedicated and pioneering Greater Depth Programme, we offer pathways for pupils to extend their learning. They can participate in masterclasses with best-in-class, inspiring experts, and compete on local, national and international stages.

We are proud to be a school that sets the bar high – where pupils are encouraged to see themselves not just as learners but as future leaders, thinkers, and citizens of the world. By embracing every child’s individuality, and weaving excellence, inclusivity, and opportunity into every corner of our curriculum, we ensure that every pupil knows: here, they are somebody, and their potential is limitless.

HOW DOES FARRINGTONS PROVIDE Exceptional Pastoral Care?

Our pastoral care approach is built on a structured, escalatory framework that ensures every pupil is known, supported and able to flourish.

It begins with Form Teachers (and all teachers) closely monitoring each child’s wellbeing. Where concerns such as low self-esteem, social struggles, or changes in behaviour arise, the child is flagged in Key Stage pastoral meetings. The Key Stage Lead then collaborates on targeted in-class strategies. If concerns persist, they escalate to our Heightened Pastoral Oversight Framework, reviewed weekly by the Senior Team and Pastoral Leads. This enables high-impact interventions to be put in place, including pastoral coaching, life coaching, emotional literacy sessions and counselling.

We treat pastoral care with the same level of analysis and rigour as academic interventions: both are reviewed in cyclical data cycles, allowing us to respond proactively and consistently.

Our house point system reinforces positive behaviour through daily alignment with our Farringtons School Pledge. As the pledge focuses beyond just academic progress, recognition is inclusive and achievable for all, creating a culture of belonging and praise, with pupils earning house points for being kind, being welcoming and working as a team. The system has deep engagement from pupils, who earn Pledge Badges at significant milestones throughout the year, such as at 50 house points (bronze), 100 house points (silver) and 200 house points (gold). Pledge Badges and a broader range of achievements are championed on a weekly basis in our weekly celebration assemblies.

A key pillar of our care system is our robust anti-bullying strategy, which focuses on strategy, education, and culture. Children are encouraged to share concerns through a variety of accessible channels – speaking to their form teacher, visiting the Serenity Space, or using anonymous share boxes. All concerns are assessed using the Anti-Bullying Alliance’s definition and a defined four-quadrant framework to distinguish where there is a bullying behaviour. This ensures every child feels safe, listened to, and protected.

Above all, we place strong emphasis on knowing every child well – from the classroom to the Senior Leadership Team – so that every child feels seen. Every intervention, system and conversation are built with that principle in mind.

How does FARRINGTONS stretch and support children?

In our Learning Enrichment Department, we have a dedicated team of four staff members who work across the school to provide tailored interventions. We analyse pupil data on a cyclical basis to identify who might need extra support in areas such as Maths or English and put the right interventions in place. Our Head of Learning Enrichment is a qualified SENCO who also supports pupils with SEND and EAL needs through personalised interventions.

For those pupils identified as greater depth – excelling in their subjects at the highest percentiles – we offer enrichment opportunities to further stretch their learning. For all pupils, we strive to offer self-select opportunities for them to push for greater depth. As a school, we are constantly exploring ways for our pupils to grow. We are an aspirational environment that knows that all pupils are able to make progress, if the right provision is put in place.

HOW DOES FARRINGTONS FOSTER Character Development?

  • Critical thinking: Philosophy for Children (P4C) sharpens critical, creative and communication skills through respectful debate and inquiry
  • Responsibility and independence: residential trips in Key Stage 2 build confidence, maturity, and lasting memories
  • Time to shine: from Pre-Reception, pupils are given the opportunity to perform in productions and take part in class assemblies

how does farringtons promote Holistic Development?

  • Curiosity and wonder: our broad curriculum ignite curiosity and a love for learning
  • Enrichment: trips, workshops, and specialist teaching in Music, PE, Computing, Languages, and more bring subjects to life
  • Thriving sports: passionate coaching and a diverse range of sport options foster a love for physical activity
  • Creative expression: music, dance, drama, and art are celebrated and showcased, providing opportunities for self-expression

What are the benefits of a whole-school ethos?

  • Seamless transition: close collaboration with the Senior School provides access to specialised teaching and facilities
  • Comprehensive understanding: staff ensure a smooth transition with a deep understanding of each child’s individual needs

what is the jigsaw programme?

At Farringtons Prep, we use the Jigsaw Programme to teach Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education. Jigsaw provides a mindful, whole-school approach that brings together relationships and health education, emotional literacy, mindfulness, social skills and spiritual development. Children follow six half-termly themes –Being Me in My World, Celebrating Difference, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships, and Changing Me – ensuring a consistent, age-appropriate journey as they grow. This carefully structured programme not only meets all statutory requirements but also supports children’s wellbeing, resilience and self-esteem, helping them to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to thrive now and in the future.

"The teachers are fully committed to delivering excellent education to the children. The lessons are engaging and stimulating and my child is always excited to tell me about the fun things he has learnt. I feel that the teachers really understand my child and this supports his development." Prep School parent
