Where Passion Meets the Stage
At Farringtons School, the Performing Arts Department is about heart, soul, and a commitment to nurturing every pupil’s passion, whether they are taking centre stage or mastering the art of the “behind-the-scenes” hustle.
The department’s calendar is a testament to its ambition. Following the magical success of the Autumn Term production of Harry Potter & The Cursed Child, the school recently transformed into a vibrant hub of 80s energy for the Senior School musical, Footloose.
More Than Just a Performance
Beyond the major productions, the school boasts:
- Subject choice: Robust GCSE and A Level programmes in both Drama and Dance
- Skill development: A thriving LAMDA programme, culminating in a highly anticipated annual showcase
- Co-curricular life: Weekly clubs in choir, oracy, Dance and Drama that allow pupils to explore their talents in a low-pressure, high-fun environment
PUPIL Spotlight: A Conversation with Our Rising Stars
This year’s production of Footloose was a resounding success, but the true magic happened during the process. We caught up with Jude and Arthur, two Year 7 scholars, to hear about their experience.
On Favorite Moments
Jude: “My favourite part was when I got to work closely with my friend Arthur, who played Willard. We worked out ways to show our physical skills while keeping the audience engaged. We ended up creating a comedy moment, but we had to rehearse a lot to make it really land.”
Arthur: “For me, it was the social side. I really enjoyed making friends with the older years. If I had not done this production, I probably would have just stuck with friends in my own year group.”
The Thrill of the Show
Jude: “It felt great! This was my first production at Farringtons and I landed the part of Cowboy Bob.”
Arthur: “I loved the thrill of singing my solo song on stage and just being surrounded by new friends.”
Lessons from the Wings
The pair agreed that the production taught them more than just lines. They noted a significant improvement in vocal projection and the complex skill of acting through song.
“It gave us the opportunity to work with a variety of different people, from staff to pupils across all ages,” they shared.
When asked about their favourite number, the choice was unanimous: “Mama Says.” The duo praised the song’s narrative energy and the high-octane performance required to bring it to life.
Whether it is through the discipline of a LAMDA exam or the adrenaline of a standing ovation, Farringtons continues to ensure that every pupil finds their voice—and the confidence to use it.
