The energy was high on Friday 6th February as the Prep School traded their uniforms for their own clothes to celebrate all things numerical. Our Year 6 learners dived into a high-octane carousel of hands-on Maths challenges designed to test their logic, speed and creativity.
Building 3D shapes: Pupils explored the properties of 3D shapes by constructing their own models, helping them visualise vertices, edges and faces.
– Times tables rock stars: A burst of competitive fun—everyone sharpened their mental multiplication skills through TTRS
– Maths 24: Children exercised their number fluency and reasoning by making 24 with four given digits, which encouraged strategic thinking and quick calculations
– Ratios and proportions with Smarties: This was a favourite! Using boxes of Smarties, pupils investigated how quantities and colour distributions vary, then applied ratio and proportion to analyse their findings
– Measuring cylinders investigation: Learners tackled practical problem solving using measuring cylinders, calculating capacities and measuring out specific volumes of water with accuracy
It was a brilliant morning of active learning, teamwork and mathematical discovery.
The Prep School was buzzing with energy this term as we celebrated Chinese New Year! Our pupils enjoyed a fantastic range of hands-on activities across every year group.

International Day of Women and Girls in ScienceOn the 11th February, we celebrated the brilliant minds lighting the path to innovation and discovery. It was wonderful to see our pupils standing tall next to our Women in STEM wall—reminding them every day that there are no limits to what they can achieve.
SCIENCE LIVE TRIPOn Friday 23rd January, twenty eight of our Year 10 pupils attended GCSE Science Live at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London. The pupils heard from some of the country’s top scientists who are all working at the cutting edge of their specialisms. From Professor Robert Winston’s lecture on the wonders of cell biology through to Professor Jim Al-Khalili’s lecture on the possibility of time travel, the pupils were exposed to the broad interdisciplinary nature of science. Coupled with more nuanced lectures from Dr Sophie Smith and Professor Andrea Sela on the science of laughter and chemical equilibrium respectively, the pupils witnessed first-hand how the study of Science in secondary school can lead to a wide array of specialist areas of research in later life. The lectures were interspersed with two short talks from an experienced examiner who offered top tips on examination success; reiterating the good practice endorsed within our lessons. We hope that the event generated an even greater enthusiasm for Science and showed our pupils that Science really does offer solutions for many of the world’s greatest problems. The pupils acquitted themselves brilliantly throughout and it was a pleasure to have their company. We look forward to visiting once again next academic year.
SIXTH FORM DINNEROn Friday 30th January, all of Year 12 and 13 were invited to a formal, sit-down meal at school with their tutors. This was to reward them for their hard-work and maturity during the year so far. The Dining Hall looked beautiful, with formal settings, flowers and crisp, white tablecloths. They were treated to sushi, chicken curry, poppadums and an amazing rich chocolate pudding.
The students behaved impeccably and they all had a wonderful evening. Thank you to Mr Jackson for organising such a great event, and to Ms Davis and her catering team for such wonderful food.

A huge thank you to our pupil leaders and staff for making this week so impactful.
It has been an action-packed term for our Senior School pupils, with House spirit reaching new heights through a fantastic variety of competitive and collaborative events. From testing their precision in pancake flipping to navigating the high-pressure (and often hilarious) flat pack challenge, pupils have shown impressive teamwork and grit.
A special mention must go to Davies house for organising a spectacular Red Day. The school was a sea of crimson as pupils traded their uniforms for red attire to support a great cause. Between the buzz of the dancathon and the ever-popular doughnut sale, it was a brilliant example of the leadership and community heart that defines Farringtons.
This year’s production of Footloose was a resounding success, but the true magic happened during the process. We caught up with Jude and Arthur, two Year 7 scholars, to hear about their experience.
Jude: “My favourite part was when I got to work closely with my friend Arthur, who played Willard. We worked out ways to show our physical skills while keeping the audience engaged. We ended up creating a comedy moment, but we had to rehearse a lot to make it really land.”
Arthur: “For me, it was the social side. I really enjoyed making friends with the older years. If I had not taken part in this production, I probably would have just stuck with friends in my own year group.”
Jude: “It felt great! This was my first production at Farringtons and I landed the part of Cowboy Bob.”
Arthur: “I loved the thrill of singing my solo song on stage and just being surrounded by new friends.”
The pair agreed that the production taught them more than just lines. They noted a significant improvement in vocal projection and the complex skill of acting through song.
“It gave us the opportunity to work with a variety of different people, from staff to pupils across all ages,” they shared.
When asked about their favourite number, the choice was unanimous: “Mama Says.” The duo praised the song’s narrative energy and the high-octane performance required to bring it to life.
weekend trip to the LONDON DUNGEONOur boarders had a spine-tingling start to the term with a trip to the London Dungeon! After surviving the dungeons, the students enjoyed some well-earned free time to explore the city.
FOOSBALLOur boarders had a fantastic weekend! The fun kicked off with a sweet surprise of Krispy Kreme doughnuts before the group headed out to Bromley. The students watched Zootropolis 2 at the cinema, followed by some retail therapy in town. To wrap up a great day out, everyone enjoyed a delicious takeaway back at the house.
The excitement did not stop there—the common room has a brand-new addition! The new foosball table is already a huge hit.
LIFE IN THE FAST LANEOur boarding community traded the classroom for the track this term with an adrenaline-fueled trip to Team Sport Go Karting.
From mastering those sharp corners to cheering each other on from the side lines, it was a fantastic day of friendly competition and high-speed fun.
