Science
In their first 3 years all students follow an integrated Key Stage 3 science course following the national curriculum.
At Key Stage 4, students have a choice of taking all three sciences at GCSE or taking Science and Additional Science GCSE or taking a single GCSE in Science. All the Sciences are taught by subject specialist teachers. We have five highly qualified Science Teachers, four excellent and fully equipped laboratories, as well as the use of ICT, a well-stocked library and two technicians.
In 2007/2008 38% of grades in GCSE Science were either A* or A.
At A Level all three sciences are popular and we teach the OCR syllabus. AS and A2 Level courses are each divided into three units which include a practical component, marked by the teacher and externally moderated.
All Farringtons students can participate in Science Clubs and achieve awards through the CREST scheme run by the British Association for Science and also enter National Science Competitions, like the Schools' competition run by the Royal Astronomical Society. We intend to stretch the most able with competitions like the British Physics Challenge and Olympiad.
