A Letter from The Head
23 March 2016
We have just completed four and a half action packed weeks and they have flown past.
Senior School students have been able to take advantage of residential trips to Cologne, Berlin, WW1 Battlefields and Barcelona, and Junior School students have enjoyed educational experiences on the Isle of Wight and in
Arethusa. To get a fuller picture of the numerous subject specific day trips and activities please read the attached, very full list. My thanks to our teaching staff who put so much of their time, talents and efforts into giving our
children the very best possible learning experience in, and out, of the classroom.
The Year 4 Play, The Pied Piper of Hamelin, was an outstanding success dramatically and musically. The students had very obviously worked and rehearsed really hard and presented a shining and polished performance which was much enjoyed by all who attended. Mr Shimmin, Miss Taylor, Mrs Wiltshire and Mrs Walker deserve praise and thanks for their commitment to facilitating such a wonderful production. My thanks also to all the parents who designed and made costumes - they have set a high bar for next year.
The Careers Evening was well supported by students from Year 5 through to Sixth Form. Mrs Frances and Mrs Vail had organised lectures from universities, colleges, employers, the Armed Forces, an airline pilot and many others. I am delighted that we are able to offer quality Careers information to our students and next year's Careers Fair is already starting to take shape.
The Year 5 Transition Information Evening was informative and I hope gave both parents and pupils alike, a flavour of many of the things we can offer in the Senior School. It gave me an opportunity to remind the audience of some of our very impressive core IGCSE Exam results, A*- C, from last summer; English Language 100%, English Literature 98.5% and Mathematics 93%, and also to explain more about the Excel Programme for Highly Gifted and Talented students which has enabled our students to be bold and adventurous. I was also delighted to be able to show those who attended, around the new Science and Mathematics Block.
