Junior School News

The Junior School has seen a great number of developments over the past couple of years. We have seen a real enhancement in the curriculum, from the introduction of the Maths Mastery model, to pupils studying Philosophy as part of the P4C (Philosophy for Children programme). Pupils are experiencing a more academically rigorous programme of study and there has been a real improvement in the standard of work in the workbooks; I am sure you will have seen this when viewing the books at Parents’ Evening.

Many of you will also be aware that in June 2022, we received our accreditation to join IAPS – Independent Association of Prep Schools. Being part of this prestigious organisation means that we join a group of 664 of the best Independent Prep and Junior schools worldwide.

Our key aim within the Junior School is to prepare our pupils for the next phase of their educational journey. With all of this in mind, the Governors and Senior Leadership Team have decided to change the name of the Junior School to Farringtons Prep School from September 2023. The term ‘Prep’ is a shortened form of the word ‘preparatory’ and we are very much focussed on preparing pupils for their studies at Key Stage 3 in the Senior School and beyond. Please note that EYFS and KS1 will be referred to as ‘Pre-Prep’.

This is an exciting chapter in the school’s history and one which will reinforce our intention to provide a curriculum which is academically rigorous, within a nurturing environment. The school will operate as it always has done and there are no changes to assessment procedures. The school uniform will remain the same. You will, however, notice new signage around the school in September.
