Textiles
This innovative course allows students to use the latest computerised sewing equipment with up to date fabrics.
Students who take up the option of GCSE in this subject, study textiles and fashion, their contemporary relevance and use. Students are encouraged to combine their designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding, in order to design and make quality products. They develop practical abilities and gain confidence to design, make and modify products for identified purposes, selecting and using resources effectively. We aim to encourage the development of students’ critical and aesthetic abilities, enabling them to evaluate design and technology activity and to provide activities which give students opportunities to work both individually and as a member of a team.
Although helpful, it is not necessary for candidates to have studied GCSE Textiles before commencing the Advanced Level course.
The AS and A2 courses offer opportunities to use a wide range of resources. The courses are stimulating and both courses are designed to encourage candidates to take a broad view of design and technology, to develop their capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing.
