WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU RECEIVE YOUR A LEVEL RESULTS
I will be in school if you need any help during results time. I hope that the following instructions will answer any questions but do ring me if you are unsure. You may receive a letter confirming your place at university. You cannot assume that this means that you have achieved the grades it may be that you do not have the required tariff points but the university has decided to take you anyway.
CONFIRMATION OPTIONS
1. You do achieve the grades that you require –you will receive a form AS12 from UCAS, this needs to be returned as soon as possible by post, there is no need to ring the university because they will have received your results from UCAS. You can check your status online through ‘ucastrack’ on www.ucas.com, you will need to enter your UCAS application number, your track username and password. You can also accept your place online. It is safest to reply both online and by post.
2. If you do not achieve the conditions of your firm choice but do achieve the conditions of your insurance – the process is the same as No.1 above. You cannot turn down your insurance place, you must either take up the place or withdraw from this year’s application and apply again next year. In some cases it is possible to change courses but you need to deal directly with the institution.
3. If you fail to reach the conditions of either your firm or your insurance – you may be offered an alternative course, you can access this ‘on track’ and it will be indicated by the symbol UCC. This will be confirmed by a ‘Confirmation ‘ letter. You are not obliged to accept this.
4. Applicants who are unsuccessful - you can go through ‘clearing’. You will be sent a clearing passport and you can find out your clearing number ‘on track’. A list of official vacancies will be published on the UCAS website and in the Independent newspaper. There are a wide variety of courses available through clearing. Some of the most prestigious courses often have places available. You can only deal with one institution at a time. When you phone the university be prepared for a mini interview, have the following to hand:
• Date of Birth
• UCAS application Number
• Qualifications, including your GCSEs
• Your personal statement
• A short CV and a photo ready to be posted.
NOTE ; Use the UCASTRACK service where possible. Check your status on track before ringing the university. If you do change course it is important that you let your local authority know so that they can adjust the financial arrangements.
Students applying to Art Foundation courses need to send a copy of results to your college.
I hope that this answers most of your queries.
