Farringtons encourages all girls in the Lower Sixth to participate in our Enterprise Scheme.
This is a charitable fund raising scheme run at Farringtons on similar lines to the national charity Young Enterprise.
Girls form themselves into companies of between eight to ten members, all of whom will be allocated various directorship roles within the company.
Each company must come up with one main product or service to sell in school and family and friends.
Girls learn an enormous amount by this exercise that is of benefit to them both whilst they are in the Sixth Form and beyond.
Businesses operate effectively and efficiently if good communication exists. Girls learn how to get on with people from all walks of life be they customers or suppliers or their bank manager.
Artistic members of the team play an important role marketing and promoting the product or service.
Students with a ‘love of numbers’ often take on the role of Finance Director, responsible for preparing a full set of books for the company and accounts at the end of the year.
A company secretary ensures that all the legal requirements are followed such as minutes of meetings and entries in the statutory books of the company. In recent years all companies at Farringtons have made a substantial profit, enabling charities of the girls choosing to benefit enormously from their activities and in addition for all shareholders to be repaid their capital on the eventual liquidation of the companies.
Girls have been encouraged to make as much as possible of the products they are selling rather than buying in ready made.
At the Christmas Fair 2008, students sold cakes, homemade sweets and offered nail and face painting. They organised a number of games to play such as 'Pin the Nose on Rudolph the Reindeer', 'Splat the Rat' and a 'Treasure Island' game.
The target set for last year was to raise a sum of £1500.00. £1800.00 was raised, which went to the Methodist Relief and Development Fund projects in Africa. The raget for the current year is £2000.00 and the sum raised will be given equally to this charity and Smile International.
Numerous discos, raffles and cake sales are being planned during 2008 and 2009. The experience gained by taking part in such worthwhile fundraising has been of enormous benefit to our Sixth Formers, providing valuable experience for their University applications and future jobs.
