This week our donations for Haiti reached the amazing sum of £3500. This incredible amount really demonstrates just how generous and caring everyone is here at Farringtons. We should all feel very proud of what we have achieved, so a big thank you for everybody’s efforts. Our donation will be heading off to MRDF, which together with ACT, will be distributing aid in the affected areas. MRDF has let us know that our donation is helping to provide food, blankets, tents and latrines to many survivors, as well as a water purification system in the Belair neighbourhood of Port-au-Prince. This is giving 10,000 homeless Haitians access to crystal clear drinking water and is a crucial step in the fight against cholera and other diseases.
Our donation will also help to provide emergency medical care to hundreds of patients, with surgery going on around the clock. Most of the cases are bone fractures and amputations. Our money is also supporting a malnutrition clinic where mothers and children can get nutritious milk and food, such as spinach, rice and beans. The most severely malnourished children are being given ‘plumpy nuts', a specially formulated paste full of essential vitamins and minerals. As well as supporting the relief efforts, our donation will provide counselling to some of the survivors and will also help with the rebuilding of homes and schools in the long-term.
If anyone would like any more information on how our donation will be spent or would like to make a further donation, please contact me. I will keep you all updated with any more news of the relief effort. All your efforts in raising this amazing sum have been truly inspiring. Well Done!
Miss Frances
