DIVING SUCCESS
On December 13th, I took part in the London Schools Diving Competition at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. I was competing in the Year 5 girls’ group and came first out of 24.
We all had to do a forward dive off the side, and then choose two dives off either the one or three metre spring boards. I chose a tuck dive and a forward line-up (a type of straight forward dive) off the one metre. I had planned to dive off the three metre board, but decided at the last minute I would get a higher score if I stuck to what I knew best. The judges add the scores up for each dive, so it is important to try and get a high score for each one. I was really surprised that I got the highest score, I didn’t expect to win!
I started at Crystal Palace last year in the Talent Group, I was then moved up with my sister to the Intermediate Group for extra training. I am now training in the elite group which is their top group for four hours on a Saturday as well as Thursday and Sunday evenings locally. The training is tough, but also great fun. Last week we did our warm up with Olympic diver, Blake Aldridge (Tom Daley’s partner) and it was really exciting watching him perform four somersaults off the ten metre board while I was on the one metre!
Catie Taylor, Year 5
Charlotte Devaux is also an accomplished diver and came sixth out of thirty competitors in the U11 Diving Competition at Crystal Palace
Farringtons would like to congratulate Catie and Charlotte on their dedication and success.
