KEY STAGE TWO

In Key Stage Two (Years 3-6) we offer our pupils a broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum. Classrooms are full of activity within an atmosphere that is calm, caring and conducive to learning, with a respectful and close rapport between pupils and staff.

Pastoral care is given high priority and pupils are looked after and supported by teachers in all aspects of School life. There is always time to listen, to talk and to help. Homework is given to all pupils, and parents are encouraged to take an active part in their child's learning.
Teaching combines traditional methods with the use of new technology and the development of reasoning skills to enable pupils to become creative thinkers and increasingly independent learners. Our highly qualified and dedicated teachers conduct lessons at a pace that maintains the interest and motivation of each pupil and encourages them to explore a range of activities to develop confidence and skills.

The curriculum includes English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, R.E., Art, I.C.T., Music, P.E. and French. The children benefit from an effective blend of class and specialist teaching which increases during Key Stage Two and helps to ensure a smooth transfer into the Senior School.

Pupils have the opportunity to become involved in the Junior School choir, orchestra or string group. Each pupil learns either the violin or recorder in a weekly instrumental music lesson and a wide range of other instruments is taught by visiting music teachers. Concerts are held throughout the year and the children are also involved in the Harvest, Christmas and Easter services in our School Chapel.

Sport flourishes at Farringtons and the Junior pupils take part in a wide range of activities including netball, gymnastics, dance, athletics, tennis, hockey and swimming. There is an extensive programme of inter-school fIxtures and house competitions. Many extra-curricular clubs further enhance the P .E. curriculum.

Whenever possible, our teachers bring learning to life through a programme of outings, residential trips and workshops. We believe that class work is enriched by these experiences and that they provide invaluable opportunities for children, staff and parents to learn together.
