EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
“The great source of pleasure is variety” – Samuel Johnson
A wide range of activities is on offer before School, at lunchtime and after the School day. As with all aspects of School life, staff are keen to nurture the enthusiasm and energy of our pupils by encouraging them to sample these activities freely. Some of the activities change termly but favourites such as the early morning Running Club, the lunchtime Reading Club and the after-school Cookery, Drama and Tennis Clubs are offered all year round.

JUNIOR SPORT
Junior School sport is primarily concerned with fostering and maximising individual and group skills. It is also, of course, about deriving pleasure from being part of a team.

Pupils enjoying Gym Club
Junior School children are introduced sensitively to a wide variety of sports both in lessons and as part of the extra-curricular programme. Each sport is valued equally; our aim is to encourage the children to get involved in as many activities as possible so that they can make more informed choices when they are older.
Sporting opportunities are numerous and are open to everyone. The staff are eager to nurture the enthusiasm and energy of our pupils.
Fixtures with other schools and inter-house team matches are organised and take place regularly.
JUNIOR MUSIC
Farringtons has a long and distinguished history of extra-curricular music and the Choir, Orchestra and String Groups are well attended and of a high quality. Pupils are introduced to the descant recorder and violin as part of timetabled music lessons from Year 3 upwards and, in addition, many take advantage of the wide range of instruments for which specialist lessons are offered: piano, violin, cello, flute, guitar and singing being amongst the most popular. These pupils work towards the various examinations grades set by the Royal School of Music that are offered in School on a termly basis.

OUTINGS AND RESIDENTIAL VISITS
Outdoor pursuits offer another dimension to our pupils’ School experience and we encourage all children to participate in our School outings. Each Year group has at least one all day excursion per term. In addition, Junior children enjoy a variety of residential visits for example the four-day “French Experience”; the three-day visit to the Arethusa Venture Centre, (which includes a detailed village study and visits to Rochester Castle and the Guildhall Museum as well as lots of team-building games); and a week-long history and geography field studies trip to the Isle of Wight.

Each pupil’s confidence is sensitively nurtured through a specially designed programme of opportunities. From the youngest to the eldest member of the Junior School, everyone has the chance to participate in class assemblies, drama productions and LAMDA examinations for those (from Year 2 upwards) who take the “Speech & Drama” specialist lessons on offer.
