SCHOOL REPORT ASSESSMENT SCORES

The recently-issued end of year reports may have, depending on year group, some assessment scores.  The following is a brief explanation of the way in which test scores are specified:

SATs
Marks are turned into Levels – there is no link with a child’s age
READING AND SPELLING
Marks are turned into “ages” – an equivalent to the achievement one would expect of an ‘average’ child for the score achieved
STANDARDISED SCORES
Average for the population is 100 – scores usually range from about 70 to 130
AGE STANDARDISED SCORES
The test is marked for a “raw” score (equal to how many correct answers have been given). Then the mark is converted on a chart, according to the child’s age in years and months, to a standardised score – ranging up and down from 100.  This ensures that there is no advantage (or disadvantage) irrespective of a child’s age.
