In today’s world it is essential that children understand the importance of good nutrition and how having a well-balanced and nutritious diet is important for staying healthy.
In Years 7 and 8, pupils learn about topics such as food safety and the importance of hygiene, how to organise and use a kitchen safely, balanced diets and methods of preparing and cooking food. These skills are then developed further in Year 9, where the aim is to have instilled a passion for cooking.
Farringtons offers GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition. This is a popular option amongst pupils who enjoy cooking and food related issues.
Building upon the skills developed in the previous years, the course is designed to enable pupils to investigate the relationship between nutrition, food choice and health as well as food science and food provenance. They will examine the functions of ingredients and develop the cooking skills in order for them to make healthy choices throughout their lives. These aspects are studied within the context of British and International cuisine.
We currently do not offer Food & Nutrition at A Level.
